The Aromatherapy Health Connection
If you listen to a number of experts on this issue, there’s definitely a connection between aromatherapy and health. Using essential oils and other plant extracts Aromatherapy is used for lifting productivity, increasing health levels, improving mood and much more. The primary benefit that aromatherapy is said to posses is that scent is very powerful for specific regions of your brain. Aromatherapy in its purest form generally includes the involvement of essential oils and can be administered in a number of different ways. The aroma can be atomized & infused into the air, passed gently under the nose or used during a massage, in the bath oil or both.
Essential aromatherapy is not difficult to try out, you only need two things, the essential oils and a way of inhaling the scent. The only thing you need to be aware of is not to apply full strength essential oils directly to the skin as it could result in a skin irritation. It’s actually fine to use essential oils on the skin, but they need to be well ‘thinned out’ in a carrier medium like jojoba oil, olive oil, grapeseed or apricot to name just a few. The type of carrier oil that you choose will depend on your skin type eg, jojoba is great for oily skin because it’s a light oil and olive oil is perfect for those of us not blessed with moist skin. Prior to purchasing your essential oils, do yourself a big favour and spend some time researching their features & benefits so that you’re in a position to select the type best suited to your particular requirements.
Much has been written about the subject of aromatherapy and there’s many books available on it however there are other mainstream oils you may wish to check out. Eucalyptus is one that’s great for clearing the sinus passages. Lavender is considered a very calming scent by most. One option to loft your mood & relieve your stress levels is Lavender essential oil and if you're considering whipping up a quick love potion, then the essential oils to use are rose, ylang ylang and sandalwood all of which are considered by many to be aphrodisiacs. If low worker productivity is an issue then spray some Jasmine and peppermint scents around to get them going. There are just a selection of some of the oils available as well as their traditional aromatherapeutic uses.
Remember, don’t commence any experiments using aromatherapy health remedies until checking with your doctor. There are a number of scents, basil being one, that pregnant women should never use. If you have particular medical requirement for a topical application it would be a wise move to make an appointment with your physician for a professional opinion and treatment. Some conditions like increasing cognitive sharpness or boosting a lagging libido respond very quickly to a sole remedy of Aromatherapy. However, other conditions like joint pain or influenza are best be used treated in conjunction with professional treatment from your doctor.
